The Ultimate Biplane for Air Show Entertainment
G-JPIT has been built from scratch over a period of 4 years.
It is based on the Pitts S2S Fuselage and incorporates all the tried and tested modifications flying on it’s the famous Union Jack coloured G-EWIZ. One major difference is the Wing design. It is unique, with massive ailerons and more wing area giving it a phenomenal roll rate and better low speed handling.
This year Rich Goodwin will perform at events across Great Britain and Ireland in the highly modified Pitts Special S2S, his ‘Muscle Biplane’.
The Muscle Biplanes have been specially modified to provide the ultimate in spectacular aerial entertainment.
It might looks like a Pitts Special, and indeed it is a Pitts Special, but don’t be under any illusions – this is not an aircraft you can buy off the shelf. The aircraft’s extensive modification programme has given this biplane unique capabilities, which allow Rich to perform an extraordinary brand of aerobatics.
The heart of the aircraft is a six cylinder 8.5 litre Lycoming 540 Engine equipped with all the extras and a massive smoke system.
The standard Pitts’ gear has been removed and the engine mount modified to take Titanium sprung gear legs and there’s a new shape carbon cowling that reduces weight and profile drag. A modified rudder design provides better looks and more powerful yaw control and the new wings, an amazing roll rate.
The modification program has given this Biplane enhanced capabilities producing a unique style of aerobatics where high energy gyroscopic forces have been combined with aerobatic manoeuvres to produce a very dynamic routine.
All that, and more, means that Rich’s Muscle Biplane can hover like a Harrier, perform double-hammerheads and the amazing Tower of Power, complete torque rolls, backwards
